This is my first peyote stitch project ever. The basic pattern came from a teacher of the class I took to do this. The color choices, stitching, and all the work is nothing but mine.
I have had a lot of experience with counted cross stitch. When it came to reading the patterns, I took to it very quickly. I don't know why I chose these colors for this piece, but they seemed to work. The overall depth reared it's head all the more as I progressed. The feel of this is like a big piece of scaley fabric. It is about 5 inches wide and 3 inches long. All beads are glass and crystal--except for the black dragon clasp. He is hand painted ceramic from Peru. I put him on there because the necklace reminded me of dragon scales. I have had children at craft shows ask if this necklace is made of reptile skin. It has sparkle and an air of mystery to it. The bead fabric is lush.
There are about 5,000 delica beads in this piece. Overall necklace length is approx 30 inches. It hangs comfortably on the neck with a nice weight to it. There is a loop clasp on the back--just slide the dragon bead through the loop. It's easy to clasp and comfortable. I tested this with my own long hair, and the clasp does not pull hair.
